Project Background
WALKSacramento, through the Design for Active Sacramento (D4AS) coalition, worked to incorporate active design principles into Sacramento County’s Design Guidelines. The goal of the project was to emphasize and strengthen policies around active transportation connectivity and accessibility, mixed land uses with walkable destinations, increasing landscaping and urban greening, and improving safety.
The team identified policies that supported health through the use of icons, which demonstrated the breadth of strategies that provide health co-benefits. In 2015, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors adopted the Active Design Guidelines as part of the updated Zoning Code.
